2025-2026 PRESIDENT JUSTIN ONG

HALF PANTAI MARATHON RUN 2026

The 3rd Half Pantai Marathon Run 2026 represented a notable achievement for the LCGTM. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 3000 participants. This marks the first occasion our club has organized a Half Marathon after taking over from our esteemed partner, Pantai Hospital Penang. We embraced this responsibility with eagerness, resolve, and a dedication to perpetuating this significant event for the benefit of our community. This marathon transcended a mere sporting event; it also fostered health, camaraderie, and community spirit.
The event included three running categories: the 21KM which was flagged off by the Organising Chairman PDG Dato' Khoo at 4.00am. The 2nd category was flagged off by PCC Allan Cheah and PP Lily Teoh at 6.00am. The 3rd category was flagged off by President Justin Ong and PP Sam Miew Heng at 6.45am. A slight drizzle did not deterred us from the excitement and determination of the runners were evident, creating a vibrant atmosphere that persisted well into the morning light. This enthusiastic participation played a significant role in the event's remarkable success. The runners have assisted us in bringing hope, care, and opportunities to those who are most in need. We appreciate the attendance and participation of R1C Desmond Teng, DC Chew Teh Hean, Lion Dr. Lee Sing Peng, Lion May Chin, Lion Stephanie Puji, Lion Anthony Chow, Lion Lim Kek Teong, Lion Tan Chee Keong, and many others whom we may have missed out.

The Lions Clubs on Penang Island made a significant impact during the global "Hunger Week of Service". A total of 21 Lions Clubs participated in the 'Penang Lions Clubs Joint Hunger Relief Project' on January 3, 2026. The project theme was "Meals of Joy, Bags of Love."

Besides distributing 300 hot meal boxes, the program featured a heart health talk presented by doctors from Pantai Hospital Penang (PHP) and a demonstration of CPR and AED conducted by PHP and the Malaysian Red Crescent.

Project OC from our club, PP Samantha said that this event fostered positive change and made a difference in the Rifle Range communities, garnering substantial publicity for the efforts of the Lions.

The heads of families who registered for our Lions Hunger Relief project arrived punctually at the Rifle Range Centre at 4:30 PM. The families were all cheerful and smiling, eagerly anticipating the start of the aerobatic exercises by the Lions. Who can convey to them that they have endured poverty and lived in dire conditions? The Lions have fostered a welcoming atmosphere, well-known to many in the Rifle Range area. The Club supplied food boxes, bread, and water to 70 families.
Prior to the distribution of our meal boxes, the Lions involved the seniors in a short aerobic dance session. Most of them were eagerly awaiting the dancing segment while enjoying their meals.

Another applicant was overjoyed to regain her sight!

Mdm Therasa, aged 70, had been struggling with blurred vision due to cataracts in her left eye. Thanks to the Lions Club of George Town Mutiara and Pantai Hospital Penang—the sight savers—she was referred for medical aid and received treatment at Pantai Hospital.

A widow living in a squatter house on state-leased land, Mdm Therasa, has faced many hardships. Her daughter, Philomina, sadly passed away last year from a severe kidney infection. Today, she relies on a small social welfare allowance, while her grandson Poovendran supports the family as a security guard.

The Lions and Dr. Tan and hospital staff visited her during recovery, and she expressed heartfelt gratitude to Pantai Hospital and the Lions for their care and support.

💛 Together, we continue to bring light and hope to those in need.

The Club Project Chairperson, PP May Cheah, reported that the event was successfully held, with 20 Lions in attendance. Our Club worked hand-in-hand with LC George Town to make the programme meaningful and impactful.
Our Club invited Pantai Hospital Penang to deliver talks on “Early Stroke Response – ACT FAST” and “Myth vs Facts: What People Get Wrong About Ageing.” Zantat was also invited to speak on the topic of invisible plastic in our bodies.
The programme included free health screening, eye checks and a blood donation drive.
Overall, we left feeling fulfilled, knowing that we had shared important and life-saving information with the community.

February 2026 Needy Family
The Project Chairperson, PP Joyce Cheah, reported that in February, several members participated in the Needy Family Project. The Club distributed essential food supplies to families facing hardship, including the families of Mr. Munusamy A/L Anjiang, Mdm Tan SP, Gan BL and Mdm Alameloo Ammal.
Through this outreach, the Club continued its commitment to easing the daily burdens of those in need and bringing care and compassion to the community.

4/3/2026 Bringing Back the Light!

Mdm Poon(76), a single lady with hearing impairment, was facing another challenge when her eyesight began to fail. Dependent on social welfare assistance and modest earnings from selling plants she gathers near her home, cataract surgery was far beyond her means.

When she reached out for help, the Lions Club of George Town Mutiara stepped in. After careful assessment, we supported her cataract operation and recommended to Pantai Hospital Penang help realized her dream come true.

On 4 March, Past President Dato Khoo, PP Lily Teoh, Dr. Ho Phuay Har, and the Pantai Hospital Penang Senior Leadership Team visited her during her recovery.

With renewed sight and hope, Mdm Poon expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the hospital and the Lions for restoring not only her vision but also her confidence and dignity.

Festive Meals @ Silver Jubilee Home - 8/2/2026
In conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year festive season, our club participated in the Region 1 Clubs in sponsoring a Chinese performance and mascot for the residents of Silver Jubilee Home to enjoy.

Bringing Joy to the Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang - 8/3/2026

OC Lion Cindy Chew reported that 40 residents of the  Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang Home were given lunch and red packets. Lions helped serve lunch to the residents, and 'Cai Shen Ye' was present to bring prosperity to all.  As the Home needs financial support to fulfill its role, several attendees made cheque donations. A Chinese performance was one of the highlights of the event.

Mdm Therasa, aged 70, had been struggling with blurred vision due to cataracts. Her left eye was successfully operated three months ago in January with the support of the Lions.

Today, she underwent her second surgery for her right eye. With both procedures completed, her vision has been restored to normal.
She shared that she never expected such kindness from the Lions Club of George Town Mutiara and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Pantai Hospital Penang for its excellent care and services.

LC George Town Mutiara is proud to share the successful completion of another cataract surgery within a week—marking yet another meaningful step in restoring sight and improving lives in our community.

Today’s beneficiary, Mdm Poon (76 yo), underwent surgery on her second eye. Living alone on a hillside, she faces multiple challenges as she has restricted movement, limited income, and hearing impairment. Despite her difficulties, she continues to support herself modestly by selling plants gathered from her surroundings at the Sunday market.

Recognizing her situation, LCGTM conducted a careful assessment and found her genuinely deserving of assistance under our cataract programme. With timely support, she received the treatment needed to restore her vision. Thanks to eye specialist Dr. Ho and Pantai Hospital Penang, the procedure was a great success. Lions visited Mdm Poon before her discharge.

This marks the second cataract surgery supported by LCGTM within a week, reflecting the club’s ongoing dedication to reaching out to those most in need. Through such efforts, we continue to bring light, hope, and dignity back into the lives of the underserved.

25/5/2026 Another Sight Saved
LCGTM received an appeal for medical assistance from Mr. Krishnan, aged 66, a retired general worker. PP Ganeson, aware of his situation, brought the matter to the club's attention.

A home visit and interview were subsequently conducted at his flat. Mr. Krishnan (66yo) previously worked at a government clinic. He is married and lives with his wife who is a housewife, in a two-room low-cost flat in Farlim.
At present, Mr. Krishnan depends solely on his pension to support their daily living expenses. Due to blurred vision caused by cataract problems, he is no longer able to work and supplement the household income. His health condition has also deteriorated over time. With limited financial resources, Mr. Krishnan appealed to the club for financial assistance to undergo cataract treatment, with the hope of regaining his eyesight and returning to work to support his family. The couple has two married daughters, both housewives with families of their own, and they are unable to provide substantial financial assistance.
With the information in hand, the club sought the assistance of Pantai Hospital Penang, and the surgery was carried out successfully.

The Lions, along with Mr. Pan, the CEO of Pantai Hospital Penang, and Mr Low Xian Deputy CEO, and staff, called on Mr. Krishnan before he was discharged from the hospital.
Krishnan conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the LCGTM and PHP, especially the ophthalmology, Dr. Yew Yih Chian, and nurses for their kindness and assistance.
